New Indie Patterns – Garment Sewing for all Levels!

We received some very exciting new paper patterns from some of our favourite indie designers this week. So we thought it would be fun to tell you a little bit about these wonderful patterns! From simple tops to flight suits, there’s something new for all levels of sewists!

First up we have the Strata Top from Sew Liberated, a great beginner garment pattern with only 3 pieces! This top features a curved hem that gives it a beautiful shape and unique look. We recommend light to medium-weight woven fabrics with a nice drape for the Strata, such as our Leta Double Gauze, Ella Viscose Linen Noil, or Avery Lightweight Linen Viscose

Another beginner-friendly pattern is the Sagebrush Top from Friday Pattern Co. This super fun top features a simple design that allows for customizations with puff sleeves, gathers across the front and a tie at the back neckline. Create a softer look with breezy fabrics such as cotton voile or double gauze, or a more structured shape with crisper fabrics such as cotton or linen, like our Ginger Gingham or Essex Cotton Linen.

For the advanced beginners, we have the beautiful new Elodie Dress from Closet Core. The Elodie is a classic wrap dress with a modern flare. It has a soft flowing bodice and features pleats under the bust, optional patch pockets, dolman style sleeves (in two length options), and a swishy skirt (in three length options). We recommend light to medium-weight woven like our Ellis Washed Linen, cotton poplin, voile and chambray. Or for a more elegant feel choose drapey fabric like viscose or rayon.

The second new pattern from Sew Liberated - The Lichen Duster - is great for more intermediate sewists. The Lichen Duster is an extremely versatile piece, and can be worn as a lightweight coat, wrap dress (pictured below), or a robe. It features a shawl collar, princess seams, unique pockets, four skirt gores, and hand-stitched facings (whew!). It is unlined, and constructed with front and back facings of the same fabric. We recommend a mid-weight linen or yarn-dyed cotton like our Ceres Linen or Jericho Linen for all-season wear!

Last but definitely not least we have the Blanca Flight Suit from Closet Core, which is a highly customizable jumpsuit inspired by vintage workwear. Blanca features a center front zipper, patch pockets that double as belt loops, a tie belt or buckled belt, a traditional shirt collar, a unique pleated back design, as well as multiple sleeve, leg and breast patch pocket options. For a structured look we recommend sturdy woven fabrics such as denim, twill, canvas, mid to heavyweight linen and cottons. For a softer look we recommend mid-weight fabrics with drape such as tencel twill. Our Delphine Enzymatic Tencel Twill would make a stunning Tencel Flight Suit!

Shop all these patterns (and of course the fabric to go with them) on our online store! We can't wait to see these new patterns come to life in our wonderful sewing community.
