Best 4 Button Shirt Patterns for Fall

Best 4 Button Shirt Patterns for Fall

When the calendar rolls over to September, there is always one garment I look to add to my wardrobe - a button shirt! I wear one often this time of year, as it becomes the perfect layering piece for chilly or rainy days. Plus, I love that you can make a button shirt out of so many different fabrics, with each result so unique!

As I am getting the urge to sew a buttoned shirt as I write this, I wanted to share with you my current 4 favourite patterns for this year's shirt making:

Upper Left (burnt orange): The Lorette Blouse from Cousette: this button shirt removes the traditional collar stand completely, but adds in fun puffed sleeves. The Lorette is straight forward and charming.

Upper Right (stripe): The Phen from Pattern Fantastique. The Phen is a modern take on the traditional button shirt. I love the interesting batwing sleeves and high hem length, and that it maintains a button placket and collar stand.

Bottom Left (purple)l Another from Cousette! This is the Djette. This pattern has oversized 90s styling with it's dropped shoulders and pleated front. I love this one in a higher drape fabric.

Bottom Right (pink): Finally, a beautiful take on the traditional. The Frida from Tilly and the Buttons is designed with a relaxed fit in mind, but with all the classic elements of a button up shirt.

Now for the hardest part, deciding which one to sew first! I created a big list of all of our button front shirt patterns (without collar stands, button up and button down) for even more inspiration. There are 16 in total! A whole wardrobe's worth!
